Response To My Fiancee’s Blog
I just read my fiancee’s blog post here and it made me wonder why women are so pissed off about Sarah Palin.
Sadly, Sarah Palin is a conservative man’s dream girl. And not because she is a snowmobiling hunter fisherwoman who loves moose stew or because she is a beautiful “Stepford Wife”.
It is because she is a conservative woman. Let me explain what I mean.
She isn’t a “Stepford Wife”. She doesn’t seem to conform blindly to old-fashioned subservient roles; in fact, she seems independent and equal in her relationship to her husband. She is a relatively powerful female politician. He is a commercial fisherman and top snowmobile racer. She doesn’t seem to submit meekly to authority or abuse by others. And she is only modestly attractive.
So, why is Sarah Palin like Hillary Clinton, drawing the ire of lots of women? Why do many women think that she is a “Stepford Wife”?
I think that there are lots of explanations.
1) Jealousy. The woman has 5 good looking kids, a handsome husband, and a dream job. Oh, and she seems to do it effortlessly, swaddling her Downs baby at the same time as she signs legislation after a week long moose hunt.
In contrast, my fiancee can barely back out of a driveway in a straight line and doesn’t really enjoy outdoorsy activities. Although, G-d bless her, she does put up with my fishing, and tries to tag along when I want to go hiking.
In contrast to Palin, she works tremendously hard towards her career goals. It just doesn’t seem fair that someone with Palin’s background can achieve so much. I’m also sure that her athletic skills piss off lots of women out of sheer jealousy.
Palin makes women feel inadequate. And that is not what you want potential voters to feel.
2) She’s a MILF. Well, not really. She is barely attractive, at least in my book. But she is skinny, even after 5 kids. Palin’s training as a model finally paid off with some real world application, attracting Republican nimrods who think of women as bikini clad objects posing in a motorcycle magazine.
Unfortunately, this was a miscalculation by McCain: nothing gets a woman’s hormones raging like some good old fashioned Darwinian competition from a powerful woman. Women who control “large tracts of land” have always been attractive throughout history, and have caused lots of wars. And by “large tracts of land” I don’t mean breasts.
Oh, some advice for Gov. Palin: That wink…give it up…it makes you look easy. And a little slutty. I don’t vote for sluts. I don’t want my VP being a security risk because she is shacking up with Vladamir Putin.
3) She acts like a ditz. Is she really as stupid as George W., or is it an act? Its hard to tell, but its impossible to like a woman who earns her position in life by being beautiful, and not being knowledgeable about the issues. She just sort of bluffs her way through life, and this pisses off many genuinely hard working intelligent women like my fiancee.
4) She insults the intelligence of women. John McCain picked her as VP and only met her once? It was a clear pander for Hillary voters. And boy o’ boy, was that a miscalculation. It galvanized both party’s bases. And a lot of people don’t understand why it galvanized the base. Well, I’ll tell you why…
5) She is not a nutritive mother of a family. She is the authoritarian father figure who thinks that bringing our boys home from Iraq is surrender and that getting an abortion after being raped is a sin. This makes her a Republican, with Republican values that rubs empathetic women the wrong way. Palin doesn’t exude empathy for the sick (she is against universal health care, for example). She exudes uncaring authority. She wants “personal responsibility” and she understands things like “oil and energy policy”. And she doesn’t care about the environment! “Drill Baby Drill” is about as caring as clubbing baby seals and hunting whales for blubber to light oil lanterns!
Oh, and did I mention that she hunts? I have no problem with hunting…in fact, I want to go hunting and bring home a big hunk of Elk…women dig that kind of caveman shit sometimes. But…Women hate the thought of killing cute little animals…especially when one of their own is doing it. It means something is wrong with the family. Hunting isn’t nurturing motherly activity. In our primitive minds, a woman hunting is an act of desperation, of survival, not leisure. That sort of imagery plays very poorly to liberated women in our desperate economic times.
So, who is Sarah Palin? She isn’t a “Stepford Wife”, that is for sure.
She is a Republican Dream Girl - a nicer version of Anne Coulter* - a power hungry Republican dressed in drag who wants to expand the powers of VP Cheney’s office in a twilight zone of power that is checked by neither the Executive nor Legislative branches.
Most women are smart enough to know that to continue the policies of the Bush Administration is bad for the country and bad for the beliefs that progressive women, men and families value.

*Speaking of Anne Coulter, I haven’t seen her on the TV at all during this election cycle. I wonder if the Republican Party finally muzzled her? After checking on wikipedia, its no surprise why: she described Barack Obama’s book Dreams From My Father as a “Dimestore Mein Kampf.” She went on to say that, “[Obama] says the reason black people keep to themselves is that it’s ‘easier than spending all your time mad or trying to guess whatever it was that white folks were thinking about you.’ Here’s a little inside scoop about white people: We’re not thinking about you. Especially WASPs. We think everybody is inferior, and we are perfectly charming about it.”
I’m sure that little bit of charming racism has kept her out of the spotlight.
